A beautiful city in Belknap County, Laconia is situated near Lake Winnipesaukee and includes Weirs Beach and the village of Lakeport. Every year, the month of June offers a nine-day-long rally known as Laconia Motorcycle Week. Every winter the city is host to the Laconia World Championship Sled Dog Derby.
Settled in 1761, the development of lumber and gristmills were soon established on Mill Street, with taverns built soon thereafter on Parade Street. The courthouse was built around 1822, which would become county seat at the creation of Belknap County in 1840.
